Online Training via Zoom

The aim of this course is to educate those who have little or no prior experience in metallurgy to a point where they are not only familiar with the materials used in the industry but have the knowledge to tackle issues that might arise. The course will follow the outline below:

  • Introduction
  • Basic metallurgical terms and definitions (e.g. dislocations, grains, phases etc.).
  • Material properties required of spring materials
  • Different types of materials used in the spring industry (e.g. patent drawn carbon steel, stainless steel etc.) and the different forms the materials can take (cold drawn, oil hardened etc.).
  • What affect typical processes used in the spring industry (e.g. prestressing, heat treatment etc.) can have on the material and why they are beneficial.
  • Q&A where attendees can have any specific questions they have on spring materials answered.

This course is aimed at anyone who has little to no previous experience in metallurgy or material science in general. We feel that everyone will get something out of this course, even those with a good background in materials science, especially if their knowledge is based in sectors outside the spring industry.
