Course details
The aim of this course is to give participants a good understanding of the main mechanisms involved with spring failure and the reason failures occur. This will help attendees identify processes used during the design, manufacture and implementation of springs which could cause failures. The course will follow the outline below:
- Introduction
- Mechanisms of failure (e.g. fatigue, corrosion etc.)
- Causes of failure (e.g. poor spring design, poor manufacture)
- Processes that can be implemented to avoid failure (e.g. shot peening, coating etc.)
- Basics of performing a failure analysis
- Q&A where attendees can have any specific questions they have on failure analysis answered
Who is this course for?
This course is aimed at anyone who works within quality or deals with rejected or failed springs but has limited engineering knowledge about the mechanisms or causes of failure in springs. Although the course starts from basics without any previous knowledge of failure mechanisms required, we believe that even experienced workers within the spring industry will get something out of the course. Helping improve all sections of spring design, manufacture and implementation limiting the need for tedious iterations to improve a springs performance.
