The current version of IST's Spring Design & Validation software is v7.5 - please contact IST if you require a FREE upgrade (from a previous v7.x version).

Features of Version 7 Spring Design Software include:

  • Licenses available for Compression, Extension, Torsion, Conical, Rectangular wire compression, Non-Standard round wire compression, Disc and Spiral spring types.
  • UK, European, DIN and SMI design criteria.
  • International, European and National material specifications.
  • BS, DIN, SMI and JIS spring tolerances.
  • English, French, German, Spanish and Italian languages as standard.
  • Standard license allows unlimited users on a single site, additional site licenses available.
  • Perpetual license means no on-going maintenance costs.
  • Spring designs are easily shared amongst network users.
  • Design summaries and all other outputs can be printed or pasted into other applications.

Base (Validation) Module

  • User-friendly interface allows easy input of the spring details, by physical dimensions and operating positions.
  • Comprehensive list of materials included, categorised by type and specification.
  • Calculation of spring characteristics, operating stresses, and tolerance data, with graphical display of spring diameter clearance.

Graphics Module

  • Spring drawing including operating positions.
  • Goodman diagram giving fatigue life prediction with pre-stressing and shot-peening options.
  • Relaxation predictions for static and dynamic use.
  • Load vs length graph shows prestressed and overstressed levels, operating data and tolerances.

Design Module

  • Define the space envelope and required characteristics and automatically design for lightest possible spring (available for compression, extension or torsion spring types).
  • Optimal Design (compression springs only): specify ranges for various design criteria such as space envelope, operating characteristics, weight, natural frequency, and select the target feature to be maximised or minimised.

Compass Module

  • Computer Aided Spring Setting utility, available for compression and extension springs.
  • Given input requirements and measured spring parameters machine settings are calculated for optimum set-up.

Please note that the software runs optimally on Windows XP. It is fully compatible with Vista and Windows 7, but requires some tweaks (which need administrator rights) to get the Optimisation module running - all other parts run fine "out of the box" however. Unfortunately, the optimisation components are not compatible at all on Windows versions earlier than XP (but all other modules work fine).
