Materials Testing

Materials Testing Services are available for both Springs and Non-Spring to both Member and Non-Member companies world-wide.

All testing is covered by IST 's UKAS accreditation and, where appropriate, compliance with specification will be certified.

All work is undertaken by fully qualified technical staff with specialist knowledge of the spring industry.

Routine Testing

· Tensile testing of wire or strip, including yield point, proof stresses etc.
· Torsion testing of wire.
· Optical metallography for structure, surface quality and hardness.
· Bend, twist and wrap tests.
· Coating thickness determination.
· Relaxation and fatigue testing.

Corrosion Testing

· Neutral salt spray.
· Humidity exposure.

Materials Assessment

· Unique FRACMAT wire coilability test (Not covered by UKAS accreditation).
· Fatigue testing of spring components.
· Evaluation of new spring materials.
· Evaluation of corrosion protection systems.
· Comparison with existing data.
